INTERIOR WINDOW SHADES · SOUTH FLORIDA
Zebra Shades for Adjustable Light and Privacy
Dual-layer Zebra shades place alternating sheer and opaque fabric bands in one smooth shade. Align the bands for filtered daylight, overlap them for more privacy, and choose manual or motorized control around the way you use the room.

DUAL-LAYER DESIGN
How Zebra Shades Create Adjustable Light and Privacy
Zebra shades, also called dual or transitional shades, use two layers of alternating sheer and opaque fabric bands. Align the sheer sections for filtered daylight, then shift the layers so the opaque bands overlap for more privacy.
They do not create blackout conditions or eliminate normal edge gaps. Fabric selection, band overlap, mount type, window geometry, and side light all affect privacy and room darkening.
HOW THE BANDS MOVE
One Shade, Two Useful Positions
Sliding the two fabric layers changes how the sheer and opaque bands line up. The exact result depends on the selected fabric, room lighting, mount, and viewing angle.
Sheer Bands Aligned
Aligned sheer sections admit filtered daylight and preserve more outward visibility while the opaque bands remain visible across the shade.
Opaque Bands Overlapped
Shifting the layers brings the opaque bands across the sheer openings for more privacy and less light. Zebra shades are not blackout shades.
ROOM-BY-ROOM PLANNING
Plan Zebra Shades Around the Room and the Window
The best result comes from matching fabric, band scale, mount type, and controls to each opening instead of treating every room the same.

Living Rooms and Great Rooms
Balance daylight and daytime views, then overlap the bands for more privacy as exterior light changes.

Privacy and Room Darkening
Use denser fabrics and careful mounting to improve privacy and reduce light. Zebra shades are not intended to function as a blackout shade.

Wide and Paired Windows
Separate shade panels, band alignment, hardware clearance, and control placement should be planned together.
ZEBRA SHADE FAQ
Questions to Answer Before You Choose
Clear expectations about light control, privacy, mounting, motorization, and the quote process.
How do Zebra shades work?
Zebra shades use two layers of alternating sheer and opaque fabric bands. Align the sheer sections for filtered daylight, then shift the layers so the opaque bands overlap for more privacy.
Are Zebra shades blackout shades?
No. Zebra shades are designed for adjustable light filtering and privacy, not to provide blackout. Fabric selection, band overlap, mount type, window geometry, and edge gaps affect how dark the room becomes.
How private are Zebra shades?
They can provide more privacy when the opaque bands overlap, but the result depends on fabric, band alignment, mount type, edge gaps, interior lighting, and the viewing angle. Privacy should be evaluated for the actual opening and nighttime conditions.
Can Zebra shades be motorized?
Motorized options are available for many Zebra shade systems. Final compatibility depends on the selected product, shade size, control method, and available power.
Are Zebra shades custom measured?
Sea Cool field-measures the opening before ordering. Mount type, finished dimensions, hardware clearance, panel layout, and expected edge gaps are reviewed for the selected system.
What happens after I request a quote?
Sea Cool reviews the project details, follows up to discuss the windows and design goals, and schedules the appropriate measuring or consultation step before final product selection.
