A SunPro retractable awning extends outward from the structure to create overhead shade over an open patio, balcony, pool deck, storefront, or outdoor dining area. A SunPro motorized screen moves up and down across an opening for insects, glare, privacy, airflow, or a weather-related need specific to the product. They share a manufacturer, but they do not do the same job.
For open-air shade, consider an awning. For an opening under a roof that needs vertical coverage, start with a screen. Your choice still depends on the opening width, how far the awning extends or the screen lowers, the mounting structure, exposure, power, controls, fabric or mesh, drainage, and daily use.

What changes the way a SunPro awning works
SunPro awnings include standard convenience features and options for individual projects. Choose features based on the mounting surface, exposure, shade angle, preferred controls, and how the property will be maintained.
Integrated cassette and EZ-Pitch
The integrated cassette protects the retracted fabric and mechanism. EZ-Pitch uses a crank and pitch pin to raise or lower the awning angle so the shade can be tuned to the sun and the site.
LED lighting, remote, and motor choices
Built-in dimmable LEDs are controlled from the remote. Published options include wireless operation, manual crank override, home-automation pairing, and Dooya or Somfy motor systems, subject to the selected configuration.
Sunbrella fabric, colors, and valances
Choose among 30 published in-stock fabrics and more than 300 custom options, four frame colors, and straight or Sea Wave valances. SunPro describes the fabric as UV, fade, stain, mold, and mildew resistant.
Wind sensor, front screen, poles, and brackets
The multi-use front bar can support selected accessories. Published choices include a wireless wind sensor, front screen, wind poles, standard, soffit, roof, and bay brackets, plus cross-arm units for narrow, deep spaces.
Plan the mounting structure
The awning must be fastened to suitable studs, joists, headers, or other structural members. Bracket type and anchor location affect whether the awning can be installed, not just how it looks.
Retract before bad weather
A wind sensor is a helpful safeguard, not permission to leave the awning extended. SunPro's written terms say the awning should be closed during inclement weather and when unattended.
Prevent water and debris problems
Retractable awnings are not intended for heavy rain. Avoid water pooling, do not roll the fabric up wet, and remove debris such as leaves, sap, and bird droppings before they damage or stain the fabric.

How are SunPro awnings controlled?

What does the EZ-Pitch feature do?

Does a wireless wind sensor make it safe to leave the awning extended?
No. A wind sensor is a useful automatic safeguard, but SunPro's warranty materials still instruct owners to retract the awning during inclement weather and when it is unattended. Sensors cannot eliminate every wind, power, installation, or maintenance risk.
Are SunPro retractable awnings rain or hurricane protection?
No. SunPro's written warranty disclaimer says its awnings are not rain, storm, or hurricane rated and are not intended for high winds or heavy rain. They should not be treated as storm shutters or code-rated opening protection.
Does SunPro offer a hurricane-rated screen?
SunPro publishes Florida Product Approval FL42317-R2 for SA Track Hurricane Screen model 42317.1. The approval applies only to that approved model and installation. Other SunPro awnings and screens do not inherit the approval.
Which mounting brackets are available?
SunPro lists standard, soffit, roof, and bay mounting brackets. The correct bracket depends on the building surface, structural members, clearances, awning geometry, and engineering or permit requirements.
What does the SunPro awning warranty cover?
SunPro's dealer materials list 10 years for awning hardware, motors and controls, and fabric, with 24 months for attached accessories. It also contains original-purchaser and original-location terms, weather and maintenance exclusions, and a labor exclusion. Confirm the current written warranty for the exact system before purchase.
How should a retractable awning be maintained?
Retract it before strong weather, avoid water pooling, do not store the fabric while wet, remove leaves and debris, and keep sharp objects, chemicals, sap, and bird droppings from damaging the fabric. Follow the installer and manufacturer care instructions for the specific motor, fabric, and accessories.
